Toad in the hole (#5223)

Medio Style Box – Elm Burr – ‘Toad in the Hole’.

This little toad seems to be happily ensconced in the lid of this beautiful box lid. I find the contrast between the sloping flank of the lid and the heavily figured top particularly stunning. It was a joy to cut this box. Internally it is relatively simple – a single tray and ‘secret’ drawer – but it is still quite roomy. If you are into ‘Bufonidae’ – the Toad Family, this may well be the box for you. By the way, if you are viewing this from outside of the UK you might not know that ‘Toad in the Hole’ is the name of a traditional English dish consisting of sausages set in a batter called Yorkshire Pudding.
