Grande Style Box (#5215) in Spalted Beech

I often describe Spalted Beech as a variegated timber, a word that describes this box perfectly. Wherever you look you find subtle and distinctive figuring. I made the decision at the outset to make a feature of the dark knotty area at one end, cutting round it rather than through it when creating one of the end keys. I also used the same feature  for the internal key which, when removed, allows access to the ‘secret’ drawer in the base (not shown in this image).

Please note that I have not inserted any drawers or trays  in the upper level of this box. I thought I would keep the ‘innards’ simple, so as not to distract from the sublime figuring on the outer surface. Did I make the right decision?

Size: 8.5″ x 4″ x 4″ approx.

There is no charge for an inscription on the base.
